All the Colours of Berlin

When in 1961 the tension between Eastern and Western Europe became too strong, the Berlin wall was built. This wall served as a physical barrier between the Communist East and Capitalist West of Germany. People from neither sides were allowed to cross the wall and so, for 28 years, the capital was divided in two parts with very visible differences.

The west side was the side of the Capitalists, the side of international products, colours and wealth. The east side was Communist and much more grey. American products were nowhere to be found, the buildings were all very similar and without much decoration.

Perhaps the place in which the difference was most visible was the wall itself. Make sure you stay in accommodation in berlin to get an idea of Berlin. Ever since the wall was constructed in 1961 it became one big
