• A disposable camera or two for each of your children- Not only does it keep them busy, but it makes for some interesting pictures for you to look at later.

• A cooler- To hold food and drinks that your children (and you) will be needing frequently throughout the trip.

• Food- Make sure to bring a variety of snacks, as children will quickly get tired of the same things over and over. But try to stay away from too much salt, as that will just make them really thirsty.

• Drinks- Try to stick to juice and water, and only include a few sodas, if any. The last thing you need is dehydrated children stuck in a car with you.

• A change of clothes for each kid- If you don’t have them, you will definitely need them. Trust me.

• Games- Be sure to choose games that are appropriate for the ages and levels of your children, as well as the number of children you have. And make sure you don’t forget that cars move a lot. So try to avoid anything with small, easy to lose pieces.

• Paper towels- They will come in handy many times during the trip. Make sure there are some where everybody can get to them.

• Medications- Any medicines you or your children might possibly need during the trip. Obvious, really.

• Cash- another one that if you don’t bring, you will need it. Just remember that not everywhere has credit card machines.

• A Map- Even if you think you know the whole trip plan by memory, you won’t remember the side street you have to pull onto when you miss your exit and need to get out of the way of all the traffic that actually know what they’re doing.

• A sense of humor- If you forget everything else, bring that. It’s incredibly hard to find a new one while you’re on the road. Trust me on that one.
