Some Tips For Gardening And Getting Fit

Did you know that you can get all of your exercise from gardening? Sure gardening is about growing beautiful flowers and great tasting fruits and vegetables, but there is no denying that it is hard and strenuous work.

Digging holes, pulling weeds and lifting heavy objects. Sounds like exercise to me. If you have ever worked in a garden you know for yourself all of the exercise that goes into it. A garden can indeed be quite a rigorous place.

Most people think that you can only get exercise if you are at a gym or on a treadmill. The truth is that you can get exercise anywhere. The garden is one of the best places. You get the health related benefits from exercising as well as the satisfaction of beautiful flowers or tasty produce.

Be sure to take precautions when gardening. A lot of time can be spent bending over. Take breaks to rest your back. Make sure you stretch before lifting anything heavy. Lifting a bag of potting soil can cause serious injury if you are not prepared.

Take special care of you back when weeding. Those this is great exercise due to the cardio benefits you can hurt your back if you are bent over all day. Be sure to take a break id your back begins to feel sore.

Exercise can also happen in the lawn. Mowing the grass is a great way to get some exercise. If out have a self-propelled mower try to just push the mower instead. Push mowing is wonderful exercise. If you are seeking a cardio workout, pushing a lawn mower for an hour or so will really get the heart pumping. You will also feel the burn in you arms, legs and chest.

You don’t need to go to the gym or buy expensive fitness equipment to get a great workout. Gardening offers all of the exercise you need.
